Dr. Anandeshwar Pandey is a businessman and sports administrator who served as the Secretary General of the Handball Federation of India (HFI) from 22 December 2013 to 1 November 2020.

Biography

Dr. Anandeshwar Pandey was born on 1 January 1955, in Dhannipatti, Deoria, Uttar Pradesh, into a family of moderate means. His father was a vaid (village doctor). He was one of nine siblings, with three brothers and six sisters. He represented Uttar Pradesh in middle and long-distance running, competing in the 5000m, 10000m, and the steeplechase from 1972 to 1976. During this time, he completed his bachelor’s degree in physical education from Lucknow Christian College, Lucknow, and was appointed as an ad-hoc coach at Baba Raghav Das Degree College in Deoria in 1976. In 1977, he participated in the 6th HFI Senior Men’s National Handball Championship held in Nizamabad, Andhra Pradesh.

He was elected Secretary General of the Uttar Pradesh Handball Association in 1983. At the 36th HFI Annual General Body Meeting (AGM) held in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, he was elected HFI Treasurer, succeeding A. N. Rajpoot (Maharashtra).

On 22 December 2013, he was elected HFI Secretary General, succeeding the esteemed Dr. Surinder Mohan Bali, the longest-serving Secretary General in HFI’s history. He was re-elected to the post of Secretary General at the 47th HFI AGM held in Lucknow on 5 November 2017. Dr. Pandey’s tenure as HFI Secretary General lasted until 1 November 2020, when he was succeeded by the current Secretary General, Pritpal Singh Saluja (Madhya Pradesh).

Dr. Pandey was elected Treasurer of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) from 2017 to 2022. He previously served as IOA Joint Secretary and Chairman and was a member of various IOA sub-committees.

In 2016, Dr. Pandey was awarded the Yash Bharti Award, the highest civilian award of the Government of Uttar Pradesh.

At the age of 69, Dr. Pandey currently resides with his family in Nirala Nagar, Lucknow.

  • Joint Secretary of Indian Olympic Association
  • Treasurer of Handball Federation of India (28 November 2005 – 1 February 2010)
