Biography
Dr. Sarwan Singh Channy was born on 5 May 1954. He is son-in-law of His Excellency Giani Zail Singh, 7th President of the Republic of India.
On 1 February 2010, Dr. Channy was elected President of the Handball Federation of India, succeeding the esteemed Padma Shri Dr. Roshan Lal Anand, the longest-serving president in HFI’s history. Dr. Channy’s tenure as HFI President lasted until 22 December 2013, during which he worked tirelessly to promote and develop handball across the country.

Bachelor’s degree in political science; Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.); Postgraduate degree in public administration (Panjab University, Chandigarh)
Career
He joined the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in 1982, serving in the Punjab cadre. He superannuated from service on 31 May 2014, retiring as Principal Secretary of the Transport Department, Government of Punjab. He also served as Chief Information Commissioner of Punjab (17 Sep 2014 – 4 May 2019).
