Dr. Pritpal Singh Saluja is a businessman and sports administrator, currently serving as the Secretary General of the Handball Federation of India (HFI) since 1 November 2020.
Biography
Dr. Pritpal Singh Saluja was born to Sardar Mohan Singh Saluja on 31 December 1962, in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. He completed his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in commerce from Devi Ahilya University, Indore in 1983 and 1985 respectively. He also earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in physical education from Rani Durgavati University, Jabalpur in 1987 and 1989 respectively. He was conferred with an Honorary Doctorate in Sports by the Global Human Peace University, Delaware State, United States of America, in a convocation held at Kamban Kalai Arangam, Puducherry on 28 October 2023.
As a player, he participated in several Junior and Senior National Handball Championships representing Madhya Pradesh. Additionally, he represented Rani Durgavati University, Jabalpur in the All India Inter-University Handball Championships.
Dr. Saluja has been serving as the Secretary General of the Madhya Pradesh Handball Association (MPHA) since 2009. He was elected as HFI Joint Secretary during the 40th HFI Annual General Body Meeting (AGM) held on 1 February 2010, in Ludhiana and was re-elected to the position at the 43rd HFI AGM held in Lucknow on 22 December 2013. On 5 November 2017, during the 47th HFI AGM held in Lucknow, he was elected as HFI Treasurer, succeeding Bashir Ahmed Khan (Chhattisgarh).
During the 50th HFI AGM held in Lucknow on 1 November 2020, he was elected as HFI Secretary General, succeeding Dr. Anandeshwar Pandey (Uttar Pradesh). He was re-elected to this position during the HFI Special General Body Meeting held on 14 August 2022, in Rohtak.
Dr. Saluja was awarded the Vishwamitra Award by the Government of Madhya Pradesh, the highest award for coaches in Madhya Pradesh.
Dr. Saluja held various positions in sports organisations, which included the following:
